그 어느 때보다 치열한 신작들의 대 경합
드디어 E3 2010 개막이 하루 앞으로 다가왔다. 현지 시간으로 14일부터 17일까지 열리는 이번 행사는 한국 기업 넥슨을 비롯해 2K게임즈, EA, 코나미, 허드슨, 루카츠아츠, 마이크로소프트, 소니, 남코 반다이, 세가, SCE, THQ, 테크모, 스퀘어 에닉스 등 약 100여개의 게임 관련 업체가 참가해 열띤 경쟁을 펼칠 예정이다.수많은 부대 행사 및 컨퍼런스, 시연 행사 등으로 채워질 이번 E3 2010은 그 어느 때보다 많은 업체들의 참가로 뜨거운 경쟁이 예상된다. 특히 올해 E3에서는 지난해보다 많은 수의 숨겨진 타이틀이 등장할 예정이기 때문에 언론들의 취재 경쟁도 뜨거울 것으로 보인다.
E3 2010을 기다리는 게이머들을 위해 지역별 참가 업체와 주목작을 정리했다. 이를 통해 얼마 남지 않은 E3 2010에 대한 기대감을 높여보는 것은 어떨까.
<한국, 넥슨 ‘마비노기 영웅전’ 필두로 E3 2010에서 대한민국 알린다>
올해 눈에 띄는 점은 약 5년 동안 E3에서 볼 수 없었던 한국 기업이 참가를 한다는 것이다. 바로 ‘카트라이더’ 및 ‘메이플스토리’로 잘 알려진 넥슨이 주인공이다. 넥슨은 이번 E3 2010에서 ‘마비노기 영웅전’(영문명 Vindictus)을 비롯해 ‘드래곤네스트’ ‘던전앤파이터’ 등 총 3개의 타이틀을 공개한다.
이미 북미 내에서도 큰 기대를 받고 있는 ‘마비노기 영웅전’은 ‘하프라이프’ 시리즈로 잘 알려진 소스엔진으로 제작된 온라인 게임으로 특유의 거친 액션과 스토리 위주의 게임 진행, 비디오 게임을 하는 듯한 조작 등으로 현지에서 큰 주목을 받고 있다.
또한 폭풍 액션으로 잘 알려진 ‘드래곤네스트’와 아시아 지역에서는 경쟁자가 없을 정도로 큰 인기를 끌고 있는 ‘던전앤파이터’도 공개될 예정이다. 이중 ‘던전앤파이터’는 이미 북미 시장 내에서 검증이 끝났고 ‘드래곤네스트’도 한국 내에서 탄탄한 게임성을 인정 받았기 때문에 좋은 반응을 얻을 것으로 보인다.
<북미, MS와 소니의 대결 속에 중견 게임사 신작 대거 공개>
북미 시장은 MS와 소니의 모션 컨트롤러 대결과 함께 그동안 공개되지 않았던 신작들의 공개로 뜨거울 것으로 보인다. MS는 ‘프로젝트 나탈’ 시연 버전을 E3 2010에서 공개해 검증 받을 예정이며, 소니 역시 3D 입체 게임과 함께 모션 컨트롤러의 시연을 할 것으로 보인다.
주목해야 할 게임은 EA의 ‘APB’와 ‘크라이시스2’ ‘데드스페이스2’, 루카츠아츠의 ‘스타워즈 구 공화국 온라인’와 ‘스타워즈 더 포스 언리쉬드2’, MS의 ‘페이블3’ ‘헤일로 리치’ ‘기어즈 오브워3’, 소니의 ‘그란투리스모5’ ‘킬존3’ ‘리틀 빅 플래닛2’, THQ의 ‘WWE 스맥다운 대 로우 2011’ ‘WWE 올스타’ ‘워해머 40,000 온라인’ ‘레드팩션 아마게돈’ ‘홈프론트’, 유비소프트의 ‘어쌔신크리드 브라더후드’ ‘톰 클랜시의 고스트리콘 퓨처 솔져’, 워너브라더스의 ‘피어3’ ‘레고 해리포터’ ‘반지의 제왕 아라곤 퀘스트’ 등이다.
이중 ‘스타워즈 더 포스 언리쉬드2’와 ‘헤일로 리치’ ‘그란투리스모5’ ‘기어즈 오브 워3’ ‘홈프론트’ ‘WWE 올스타’ 등을 현지에서도 큰 관심을 가지고 있는 게임이다. ‘스타워즈 포스 언리쉬드2’는 전작에서 대활약을 펼친 스타킬러가 부활하면서 벌어지는 이야기를 그린 액션 게임이며, ‘헤일로 리치’는 ‘헤일로’ 시리즈 전에 해당하는 이야기를 다룬 FPS 게임이다.
‘그란투리스모5’는 말이 필요 없는 최고의 드라이빙 시뮬레이션이며, ‘기어즈 오브 워3’는 3부작으로 제작됐던 ‘기어즈 오브 워’ 시리즈의 마지막 이야기를 다루고 있다. THQ에서 새롭게 선보인 ‘WWE 올스타’는 현존하는 최고의 WWE 레슬러들이 출현해 화려한 기술을 선보이면서 싸우는 아케이드 스타일의 레슬링 게임.
이 외에도 각 게임사마다 1~3개의 미공개 신작을 선보일 것으로 보인다.
<일본, 자국 게임성보다는 글로벌한 성격 맞추기 위한 라인업으로 승부>
게임 왕국 일본 게임 개발사에서는 기존에 자국의 성향에 맞춘 게임보다는 전 세계를 겨냥한 게임성을 가진 다양한 신작으로 E3 2010에서 등장할 예정이다. 딱딱한 게임성을 버리고 샌드박스처럼 좀 더 자유로운 형태의 게임들이 많이 눈에 띈다.
가장 많은 라인업을 공개한 캡콤은 ‘데드라이징2’와 ‘바이오닉 코만도2’ ‘마벨 VS 캡콤3’ ‘마계촌 골드 나이츠’ ‘전국 바사라3’ 등을, 허드슨은 ‘봄버맨 라이브’ ‘데카 스포츠3’ ‘로스트 인 섀도우’, 코나미는 ‘캐슬바니아 로드 오브 섀도우’ ‘데프잼 랍스타’ ‘메탈기어 솔리드 피스워커’ ‘나인티 나인 나이츠2’ ‘프로 에볼루션 사커 2010’ 남코반다이의 ‘에이스 컴뱃 조인트 어설트’ ‘드래곤볼 오리진’ ‘나루토 울트메이트 닌자 스톰2’, 세가의 ‘판타지 스타 포터블2’ ‘소닉 더 헤지옥’, 스퀘어에닉스의 파이널 판타지14 온라인’ ‘케인 & 린치2’ ‘프론트미션’ ‘킹덤 하츠’ 등이다.
이중 ‘데드라이징2’와 ‘마벨 VS 캡콤3’ ‘캐슬바니아 로드 오브 섀도우’ ‘케인 & 린치2’ 등은 일본의 해외 시장 공략을 위한 노력이 어느 정도 수준인지를 잘 살펴볼 수 있는 게임들이다. 전 세계 시장 내에서 돌풍을 일으켰던 ‘데드라이징’의 후속작인 ‘데드라이징2’는 좀 더 북미식에 맞춰 액션이 거칠어졌으며, ‘캐슬바니아 로드 오브 섀도우’도 시각적인 측면에서 북미 성향이 강해졌다.
